Daniel Mercer b.sc (hons)

Daniel Mercer b.sc (hons)

Co-Founder

Daniel Mercer is an anatomist, with seven years experience of teaching medical students, who is in the clinical phase of the MBChB at Warwick University.   He serves on the Committees of the Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Grand Rounds and Student Seminar Societies at the Medical School, embracing his passion for quality-assured clinical education and neuroscience.

As NHS Ophthalmic Science Practitioner at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Daniel taught A&P correlates in Grand Rounds regularly, formed an ophthalmology programme for non-medical practitioners, lectured on the MSc of Advanced Nursing Practice for the University of Manchester and regularly had students of medicine and allied health professionals shadow him in clinic. 

Daniel then moved on to be an Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatcher for the North West Ambulance Service, whilst working for KenHub, TeachMeAnatomy as Editor of Clinical Anatomy and GeekyMedics as Anatomy MCQ writer.   He is Co-Founder of MedGuide and seeking Neurology as a career.

 Jonathan Loomes-Vrdoljak BSc (Hons)

Jonathan has a first class degree in biochemistry from the University of Bristol where he took specialist units in medical biochemistry and molecular biology, which included a final year research project into the nexus between diabetes and heart disease. He is currently studying medicine at Warwick Medical School.

Jonathan enjoys teaching others – he is involved in peer teaching at WMS and interested in developing questions and tools to help students learn, understand and memorise medical knowledge. Interests include immunology and embryology and he is interested in a career in acute or general internal medicine.

Jonathan is responsible for the technical aspects of MedGuide.

Katrina Bogus B.Sc, M.Sc

Katrina has a specialist undergraduate degree in neuroscience as well as a major in mental health from the University of Toronto, Canada.

She further obtained a Dual Masters in Brain and Mind Sciences from University College London, Sorbonne University and École Normale Supérieure in France.

Her research interests have tended to focus on fundamental and clinical research of processes in the temporal lobe such as event memory formation, visual/boundary perception and how perceptual experiences are influenced by reward processing.

Katrina has worked in various mental health services in the NHS including the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, and community psychosis teams focusing on rehabilitation of patients with treatment resistant schizophrenia back into the community. Katrina is currently studying medicine at the University of Warwick in pursuit of becoming a neurologist.

Nick Lowe (MNursSci) is a registered nurse and currently studies graduate-entry medicine at the University of Warwick.

Nick studied nursing at the University of Nottingham graduating with a Masters of Nursing Science in 2017. During his training he experienced a wide range of specialities including ICU, surgery, acute medicine, community nursing and emergency medicine. Following his training he worked as a nurse in A&E at a major trauma centre in the Midlands prior to starting his medical training.

Nick has a longstanding interest in teaching and medical education, which he was involved in both during his training and when practicing as a nurse. He looks to continue this during his medical training.

 

 

Joanne Rose BSc (Hons)

Joanne Rose is currently a second year graduate-entry medical student at the University of Warwick and graduated from the University of Birmingham in Medical Science in 2014.

She has always been interested in teaching, from having taught a wide range of ages in a variety of subjects from piano to STEM subjects.

During her undergraduate degree, Joanne was part of MedMinds, teaching secondary school children about mental health and well-being, a cause for which she is passionate about. Joanne’s current aim is to work in paediatrics, with a particular interest in neonates. She also has experience in liver research, and a personal interest in both hepatology and endocrinology.

Alongside her studies, Joanne continues to work as a healthcare assistant in various hospitals.

In addition to this, she also runs The GradMed Journey across multiple social media platforms, most notably YouTube and Instagram. Her focus is on providing advice and support to students who are applying or considering to apply to Medicine but also uses these platforms to document the highs and lows of studying a medical degree, whilst also providing motivation to students who both wish to and are currently studying medicine.

Zoe Lyon

Zoe Lyon BSc (Hons) is current graduate-entry medical student at the University of Warwick.
She graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Physiotherapy in 2018. In addition to undertaking physiotherapy placements in a number of specialties, Zoe has experience working with children and young adults with disabilities.
Zoe has a strong sporting background and is particularly interested in working in trauma and orthopaedics. She is also very interested in making learning materials more engaging in order to help students of all levels to feel more prepared for both exams and their future careers.

Faith Baker BSc (Hons) is a current graduate-entry medical student at the University of Warwick.

She studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leeds and graduated in 2017. She subsequently spent a year working as a scientific copy editor for an Oncology Journal in London.

Faith has worked as a medical secretary and receptionist in several NHS surgeries and hospitals and also has experience volunteering with inpatients with dementia. She has interests in both emergency medicine and assisted reproduction.

Faith is keen to assist in making educational resources that are more comprehensible and varied in order to benefit people with specific learning difficulties and those who find traditional methods of learning difficult to digest.

Megan McLean BSc (Hons) is currently a graduate-entry medical student at the University of Warwick.
Megan graduated from Queen Mary University of London in 2018 with a first in Biomedical Sciences before attending Warwick.
She is a self-confessed trauma and emergency medicine fan and is aiming to work in pre-hopsital emergency medicine.
Megan is keen to ensure that all medicial students have access to high quality learning resources and so is very excited to be joining the Medguide team.

Lena Berger MSc is currently a graduate entry medical student at the University of Warwick.
She graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Experimental Psychology and a MSc in Applied Neuropsychology in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Alongside university, she works as a Healthcare Support Worker in various specialities but primarily focuses on Intensive Care and the Emergency Department.
Furthermore, she teaches BLS and first aid for Resuscitation for Medical Disciplines (RMD). Lena is particularly interested in the field of surgery or pre-hospital medicine.

She completed her first degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Sheffield.
Beth has had experience in primary and secondary care environments, working hands-on with patients and behind the scenes.
Beth is passionate about excellent communication and is excited to work on a project that enables medical students to excel in their studies and become dedicated doctors.
